Have you seen the guy at the gym that doesn’t work out his legs?

We have all seen the guy at the gym who has the big arms, broad chest and lat muscles that we’re all looking for. He works out for hours several times a week. You know the guy that I am talking about. He’s the guy looking in the mirror working with the dumb bells, the pull down machine and the shoulder press machine. But you never see this guy working out his legs. This guy missed every leg day! He looks like an upside down Eifel Tower ready to be knocked over by the slightest wind. Why? Because he never works his lower body!

Did you know that the bones in your lower body produce most of your bodies red blood cells which are important to your immune health?

There are many health benefits to working out your legs than just being strong and looking good. Working out your entire body improves your bodies overall circulatory system. Most importantly though, working out your legs improves the blood flow to the bones in your body that produce most of your red blood cells. Healthy legs and pelvis area mean better overall health. And an improved immune system!

Working out your lower body has greater benefits to your overall health than just working out your upper body alone.

  • leg trainingLower body workouts burn more calories.

The muscles in your legs are the largest muscles in your body. When you workout your legs you burn more calories. Heavier men will burn more calories, while lighter men will burn slightly less calories.

  • Working out your lower body burns more fat.

Working out your legs also burns more fat than working out your upper body. Any exercise that is composed of multi-joint movements such as deadlifts, squats and lunges will burn more fat than single joint exercises.

  • A balance of upper body and lower body workouts looks better.

Don’t be the guy that looks like the upside-down Eiffel tower! Working out your lower body not only improves your overall health but the balance of upper body strength and lower body strength looks better. Strong legs look great!

  • leg trainingLower body workouts enhance your bodies immune system.

Your bodies immune system is your first defense to fight cold, infections and other illnesses. Your lower body is like the trunk of a tree. The stronger that your lower body is the stronger that your overall body will be. And the better that your body will be able to combat disease and infection.

  • Lower body workouts improve your bodies overall strength.

If you participate in martial arts or would like to have the confidence knowing that you can stand your ground then strong legs are what you want. Most fights end up on the ground and if you do not have strong legs planting yourself to the ground then you are going down!

  • Improved energy levels and stamina.

Along with increased overall health regularly working out your legs will improve your overall energy levels and stamina. Working out your legs will allow you to last longer because in this game of life it’s survival of the fittest! The question now is, will you be fit for the fight?
